Newly Discovered Iberian Dilution Gene
|
Andalusians and/or Lusitanos believed to carry a "new"
dilution gene,
which (for now) we are calling "Pearl".

We believe these top several horses are double cream dilutes (perlino
or cremello). Some have sired or birthed "Pearl" dilutes
by a seemingly base-colored (chestnut, black or bay) dam. Some may
even carry the "pearl" gene, but we have no indication of this
so far. I include them because my search for champagne in the Iberian
breeds began in this family, and led me to Majodero, who turned out to be
something much, much more. -- Barbara Kostelnik, webmaster

Epocha: dam of Nespera, granddam
of Q, great-granddam of Majodero (see below).
http://www.8ung.at/romu/Pferde/e_stuten.html Epocha lives in Germany,
with Edith Mueller and Umbaba (see below).

Q: is the sire of Majodero
out of Chica (see below for both). He has never sired an unusual
color like this out of any other mare. Therefore, we believe that
Chica, and not Q, is the carrier of the "pearl" gene. Nespera is
Q's dam, and Epocha is his granddam.

Quimono is theoretically a double-cream
dilute. He looks like a perlino or cremello, and is known as an
"isabela". I have seen a photo of him but don't have any at this
time. He's the sire of Epocha, great-grandsire of Q.

Chica: Chica is believed to carry a
recessive (pearl) dilution gene. She has birthed two foals that look
like double-dilutes at maturity (see below), by the cream dilute
stallions, Q and Saphiro. She has been DNA color tested and is ee,
crcr (no cream.)

Majodero: This stallion is Chica's foal by Q.
He now resides in Australia where some-one
is mistakenly calling him and some of his ancestors "champagne".
Pedigree. Older
info (sorry, former owners have taken down most of his pages.)

Guindeleza R: This is the daughter of Chica by
Saphiro. Now owned by Sommer
Ranch , where BRAVIO lived and died.

  |
Bravio is the sire of several "Pearl"
colored foals. He was a bay (Ee,AA,crcr) with no cream gene.
Now sadly deceased, he was the pinnacle of Sommer
Ranch's dreams.

Mia Fantasia is one of Bravio's daughters. For more
information see Equine.com - Mia Fantasia

Tequila is one of Bravio's
"pearl" sons . Unknown horse in foreground in photo#1; with his
cream dilute dam in photo #2.
